Vast Data Centers’ Wes Swenson Talks Hyperscale CapEx at CAPRE’s Southwest Convention: “We’ve Seen a Plateau of Demand”

LAS VEGAS, NV — CAPRE’s Southwest Digital Infrastructure Industry Convention kicked off with a roundtable event, “Market Overview: Analysis of the Impact of Record-Setting Investment on the Industry and Future Opportunities in Hyperscale, Edge and 5” which featured Wes Swenson, Chief Executive Officer of Vast Data Centers; John Regan, Chief Technical Officer & Senior Vice-President of Acquisitions at Landmark Dividend; Luke Denmon, Senior Vice-President of the Technology Solutions Practice at Colliers International; as well as Michael Ortiz, Practice Leader for Digital Infrastructure Solutions at Keyser. The session was moderated by Sami Badri, Senior Equity Analyst at Credit Suisse, who asked one of the experts to offer some of their specific insight on the industry at large “Can you give us your take on what you’re seeing relative to the U.S. hyperscale capex spend, what those outsourcing dynamics are?” requested Badri, first looking to Vast Data Center’s Swenson, who used to own the firm C7, to share some extensive analysis before sharing the spotlight with the rest of the panelists. “When I sold that firm to Databank, it was retail, multi-tenant colocation -- any size, any bandwidth. In my case, the trend we had seen for the last 10 years was the 2 to 5-cabinet or 10-cabinet client was disappearing at a pretty rapid rate, thanks to SaaS or the Cloud, whatever it may be.
