Mr. Lewis is Chairman, President and a founder of Wharton Equity Partners. Since its inception in 1987, he has overseen the expansion of the firm’s investment reach across different asset classes and industries. As Chairman of the Real Estate Investment Committee and Private Equity Investment Committee, Mr. Lewis drives the direction of Wharton Equity Partners as it continues its disciplined strategy of recognizing and capitalizing on emerging growth trends to realize substantial risk-adjusted returns. Recently, Mr. Lewis spearheaded the launch of the firm’s multi-family strategy, with investments in 2012 of over $150.0 million in rental properties encompassing approximately 2,200 units (located in central Florida, Louisville, Kentucky and the northern suburbs of Chicago), and its hospitality strategy with the acquisition of two hotels: a 367-room property located in Lexington, Kentucky and a 122-room Holiday Inn Express located in Colorado. In addition, Wharton Equity has expanded its operations into the Miami market with its recent purchase of a note secured by a 2.2 acre parcel of land in downtown Miami, zoned for a 2 million square foot mixed use project. The note was acquired in partnership of a New York City-based global hedge fund. During his career, which includes previous employment in investment banking, commercial banking, and tax accounting, Mr. Lewis has been directly responsible for equity investments of well over $2.0 billion in real estate, venture capital and private equity transactions. Mr. Lewis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his Master in Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. He is a frequent guest lecturer in real estate and venture capital investing, and is involved in a number of philanthropic endeavors.
