“We’re Building as Rapidly as we Can” | Q&A with Iron Mountain’s Troy Hill

CAPRE: Thanks for meeting with us today. How did 2019 shape up for Iron Mountain Data Centers? Hill: 2019 was an exceptional year for Iron Mountain Data Centers. We hit our mark in a lot of market for sales. We built a ton this year. We kept busy building new facilities and new capacities for Northern Virginia, New Jersey, Phoenix, London, Amsterdam, and Singapore. That’s a lot of capacity. But we’re continuing those projects into the next year as well. CAPRE: Talk to us about Northern Virginia. What’s setting the pace in that arena? Hill: Northern Virginia is one of the markets I manage, and our two facilities there are growing as rapidly as we possibly can, as is the case with other data centers around here. We’re building as rapidly as we can. Sales for highly regulated customers continue to pour in. We sold 120% over our projection in Northern Virginia, filling our first building and then kicking off and pre-selling into our second building, which will be online in May and will start off with 20 megawatts of capacity. It’s quickly coming together. CAPRE: What are you hearing from end-users? What are they picking up the phone to call you about? Hill: We see a lot of customers interested in security and, more recently, energy efficiency. People are really pushing for that in the data center business.
