How are Cloud Solutions Making the Impossible a Reality?

TORONTO, CANADA — We all know that, thanks to the Cloud, the data center industry changes by leaps and bounds with every passing year. We also all know that stories about changing power costs, the importance of connectivity, and the like are important but overflowing. Sometimes, what you really need is to think big. So we asked Stephan Abraitis, Senior Director for Critical Environments (Global) at RBC, how are Cloud solutions making the impossible a reality? “Let me tackle this question by breaking it into two separate components,” says Abraitis. “First I’ll talk about the facilities component, the actual infrastructure. It brings elasticity to the equation. What was impossible in the past was to quickly ramp up the infrastructure needed to enable a platform or a new initiative.” Abraitis says that it’s a similar answer when thinking about tools as well. “When we were standing up a new ability within a bank, there’s a lot to the infrastructure, plus the fact that we had to stand up every component of a software platform, from the network component to storage to security and depending in which OS you use,” he continues. “You had to code before it could be a proof of concept and released to the public.” According to Abraitis, the Cloud offers and allows that needed elasticity. “It allows you to try new initiatives. If it doesn’t work, you can track it pretty quickly. It has a homogenous platform…
