Check out the latest in deals, development and disruptive technology in the data center space for June 28, 2019:

  • Equinix Expands Collaboration with IBM Cloud: Equinix has announced an expanded collaboration with IBM Cloud to bring private and scalable connectivity to global enterprises at the digital edge via Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX Fabric). This expansion builds upon the long-standing Equinix and IBM relationship where IBM Cloud Direct Link Exchange is deployed in more Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers worldwide than any other Direct Link Exchange provider. Additionally, Equinix has joined the IBM Cloud Direct Link Service Provider Program, providing at least one Direct Link point of presence in each of IBM’s strategic markets
  • EdgeConneX Brings Cutting-Edge Cloud Access Solutions to Memphis: EdgeConnex has announced the launch of local cloud on-ramp services to enterprises in the Memphis area through partnerships with Comcast Business and Megaport. Through these partnerships, Memphis area businesses will have local access to the world’s leading cloud platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud. By offering dedicated cloud on-ramp services that bypass the public internet, businesses have direct connections to the cloud that are highly secure, offer guaranteed performance, improved latency, and ultimately reduce the overall costs of accessing the cloud.
  • Google to Acquire Looker: Google will acquire Looker, a unified platform for business intelligence, data applications and embedded analytics, in a $2.6 billion all-cash transaction. Looker integrates data into the daily workflows of users to allow organizations to extract value from data at web scale. Upon the close of the acquisition, Looker will join Google Cloud. This acquisition builds on an existing partnership where the two companies share more than 350 joint customers, such as Buzzfeed, Hearst, King, Sunrun, WPP Essence, and Yahoo!. The acquisition of Looker is expected to be complete later this year and is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals.
  • OMB Releases Final Federal Cloud Computing Strategy: The Office of Management and Budget has released the final Cloud Smart strategy that aims to accelerate the adoption of Cloud platforms within federal agencies. In the Report to the President on Federal IT Modernization, released publicly in 2017 in accordance with Executive Order 13800, the Office of Management and Budget pledged to update the Government’s legacy Federal Cloud Computing Strategy. The office has now announced their chosen strategy to accelerate such adoption of cloud-based solutions: Cloud Smart. The new strategy is founded on three key pillars of successful cloud adoption: security, procurement, and workforce.
